The Freeride World Tour

Case study: World-class IP video services

About the tour

The Freeride World Tour (FTW) is the worldwide circuit of freeride snowboarding and skiing with the best riders in the world competing on the most legendary and challenging alpine faces at the most renowned ski resorts across the world. The Freeride World Tour trusted Maven to provide IP video encoding and a bonded uplink solution for the Kicking Horse, Golden BC leg of the tour.

#DROPIN

The Freeride World Tour airlifts their entire production to the top of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort near Golden, BC. Our uplink gear is transported into place via snowmobile and experienced skiers. With a large production crew, huge online audience and a small weather window to go live, this event is mission critical with no room for error.

Our solution

Maven was engaged to provide a backup 4G video uplink for the broadcast, acting as an active failsafe to their primary satellite uplink. The production location was located close to the event, but was inside a cellular dead zone. We setup a repeater station and deployed long-range radios to relay the signal from our encoders and out to several cellular networks. The use of network bonding allowed us to combine the bandwidth of multiple carriers together to achieve the reliability needed to sustain a full 1080p HD live stream without interruption, for a fraction of the cost of satellite technology.

Maven Media Group is constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Staying at the forefront of IP video technology is one way we continue to provide innovative technical solutions for our clients.
